Geonium Chip: smaller Penning traps, bigger possibilities Penning ion traps enable some of the most precise tests of physics and offer unique capabilities for quantum sensing, mass spectrometry, the measurement of fundamental constants, and others. Yet conventional Penning traps are large, complex, and expensive, restricting their use to a small number of laboratories worldwide. The Geonium Chip group is reinventing the Penning trap, with the goal of making this technology radically more accessible. Our team is developing a new compact, scalable, and cost-effective Penning trap technology, opening the door to broader scientific, technological, and commercial applications.
